Torcon Marks Ten Years at Cooper University Health

“Repeat Business” has become such an overused marketing term in the construction industry it’s in danger of losing meaning.  While Torcon is grateful to our many repeat clients, there are some customer relationships that don’t simply span multiple projects or years, but decades.

Cooper University Health Care – the leading provider of health services, medical education, and clinical research in Southern New Jersey and Delaware Valley – is one such client. This year marks Torcon’s tenth consecutive year working at the Camden hospital.

Torcon’s work for Cooper has evolved over time, beginning with renovations at the main hospital. Today, Torcon continues to manage projects in Camden, not only providing CM services to Cooper, but also supporting their capital projects with estimating and planning. We are proud to say we have completed close to 100 Cooper projects of varying sizes just over the past six years alone. Our work encompasses Cooper sites in Camden, Mount Laurel, Willingboro, Voorhees, Cherry Hill, and Haddonfield.

Torcon Senior Project Manager Jaime McGeehan has worked continuously on Cooper projects for almost half of her 11-year career with Torcon. She attributes our close relationship and continued work for Cooper to the trust and communication built between our team and theirs:

“Their PM’s are fantastic and understand what we do as construction managers. They accommodate us, and we accommodate them.”

Jamie’s tenure with Cooper saw her working during the early stages of the COVID pandemic in 2020. Considered essential, our work during this time did not cease. “Even with restrictions, we didn’t miss a beat,” Jaime recalls. Because of the longstanding relationship between Torcon and Cooper, we managed to stay the course and allowed Cooper to worry about their patients while Jamie and her staff continued the construction and renovation. Among Cooper’s fast-track projects entrusted to Torcon at that time were COVID Tents outside the hospital and COVID Ante Rooms within the hospital to help soften the blow from the unprecedented influx of patients.

Cooper University Hospital’s ED Neuro Suite project, which started early in the pandemic – June of 2020 – was completed in January of 2022. This center is the first of its kind in the nation, allowing stroke patients to be treated immediately upon entering the emergency department. Because of its “one-stop-shop” design, Cooper can address the critical and time-sensitive nature of neurovascular emergencies right in this department.

Recently, at end of 2022, Torcon completed renovations for Cooper University Hospital’s Hybrid OR in Camden. This state-of-the-art OR boasts technology and innovations that allow Cooper University Health Care to elevate the standards of patient care in Southern New Jersey.

Torcon is proud of the wide array of essential and groundbreaking projects we have completed for Cooper University Health Care over the past ten years. But we are most proud that our commitment to excellence and dedication to our clients has aided Cooper in their mission “To serve, To heal, To educate”.
