The biotech facility was built to accommodate research, manufacturing, packaging, raw material and product staging, warehousing, and supporting office space.
The facility was designed to produce diagnostic kits based on Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology, new blood screening products, and Perkin Elmer research products. Warehouse spaces include a large 2–8º C storage area, a smaller –20º C freezer space and ambient storage. Manufacturing suites are cGMP compliant and fully validated. These areas meet both the cGMP area classifications as well as hazard classification for type H2 and H4 construction.
The overall work in Branchburg encompassed the “grass roots” construction of a 240,000 net square foot facility, plus an adjacent central utility plant. A total of 17 air handling systems provides the air circulation, isolation and pressurization requirements for the established quality and safety standards. Process utilities, purified water, clean steam vacuum and inert gases were provided to support the process systems. In addition to the HVAC chillers, two low temperature process chillers were installed to support a series of cold and freezer rooms as well as process systems.
