Torcon provided construction management services for the adaptive reuse of a biopharma laboratory building to house Hackensack Meridian Health’s new four-year school of medicine and Seton Hall University’s College of Nursing and School of Health and Medical Sciences. The new facility is New Jersey’s only private school of medicine.

The project partially renovated two former Hoffmann-La Roche facilities to provide offices, class rooms, a library and an auditorium, as well as healthcare training facilities that include clinical skills, mannequin simulation, physiology labs, occupational therapy labs, and activities of daily living lab, nursing skills, and health assessment bed labs. The School also provides gross anatomy and prosection labs and classroom space.

An annex building, which connects via a bridge link to the main building, was also renovated by Torcon for Hackensack Meridian Health’s Center for Discovery & Innovation, an academic-based entrepreneurial center dedicated to preventing, reducing and curing acute and chronic diseases related to cancer, infectious diseases and other life-threatening and debilitating conditions. The high containment labs built by Torcon allows the CDI to provide robust preclinical support cores for animal model testing, pharmacology, genetic engineering, imaging, flow cytometry and cell sorting.

Torcon worked with the client team and architect (FXCollaborative with CO Architects) to establish the program and design.
