Torcon was Construction Manager for a renovation and reconfiguration of Genzyme’s fill-finish and packaging facilities. The renovation provides proper segregation of the fill-finish line from the labeling, packaging and shipping operations to avoid the risk of contamination.

The project converted an unused loading dock and storage area into a useable manufacturing space, while effectively resolving the challenge of building a modern, GMP compliant facility. The work was completed in limited space and with no disruption to other activities at the site.

The new facility also utilized space above and in an adjacent warehouse, providing height for a mezzanine office area above the packaging line. Operations can be monitored from above the packaging line, minimizing the number of technicians on the floor. As a result, packaging operations fit into a narrow corridor.

The project moved quickly, with construction beginning during facility shutdown in December and completion in coordination with facility shutdown seven months later.
