Torcon provided comprehensive CM services to Mennonite General Hospital for a major expansion and renovation program in Cayey, Puerto Rico. The project encompassed construction of a new 142,500 sq. ft. hospital wing and renovation of existing facilities (41,000 sq. ft.) The new wing is a four-story addition to the east of the existing operating hospital. The new building provides new adult and pediatric emergency areas, admissions, maternity with neonatal intensive care units, cardiology department and surgery, and 61 new patient beds. The project scope also included the construction of a 176,450 sq. ft. parking structure for 540 vehicles. Construction was completed on schedule in September 2012, with no impact to existing hospital operations.

Torcon's cost control efforts enabled Mennonite to exercise a number of important project options—

  • > two additional levels of parking (four decks),

  • > complete replacement of the central CHW generation system for both the expansion and the existing facility, and

  • > synchronizing equipment for emergency backup

Torcon's safety program and performance on the project earned an OSHA VPP Guanin (Star).
